Scorpion World Ranking (SWR)

Calculation rules

(last update -  28.09.22)

1. Only those table hockey tournaments that are arranged in the Scorpion system are included into SWR;

2.
All tournaments arranged in the Scorpion system are divided into 6 levels:

Level 1 - World Championships

Level 2 - continental championships, the biggest stages of Scorpion Grand Prix and ITHF World Tour;

Level 3 - usual stages of Scorpion Grand Prix and ITHF World Tour;

Level 4 - national championships and cups;

Level 5 - regional and city championships, tournament series for professional players;

Level 6 - amateur, local, training and other tournaments not related to the previous levels, as well as any tournaments with less than 10 participants.

3.
The points received by each participant for the performance depend on the following indicators:

3.1. Tournament level;

3.2. The place taken by the participant in the tournament;

3.3. The geographical location of the tournament (only for levels 4, 5, 6);

The number of points received by players in SWR, depending on the level of the tournament, is:

Level 1: 1st place - 1000 points, 2nd place - 950 points, 3rd place - 900 points. Further the points are evenly reduced so that the last participant in the tournament receives 1 point.

Level 2: 900, 850, 800 (places 1-3) ... 1 (last place)

Level 3: 700, 650, 600 ... 1

Level 4: 600, 550, 500 ... 1

Level 5: 400, 350, 300 ... 1

Level 6: 200, 150, 100 ... 1

Points received by participants in tournaments of levels 4, 5, 6 are multiplied by the coefficients of countries and regions depending on the geographical location of the tournaments.

At the moment of publication of the current update of the SWR calculation rules the following country coefficients apply:

Russia - 1.0

Latvia - 0.9

Chech Republic, Sweden, Ukraine - 0.8

Finland - 0.7

Estonia - 0.6

Germany, Norway, Slovenia - 0.5

Belarus, Denmark - 0.4

Kazakhstan - 0.3

Other countries - 0.2

At the moment of publication of the current update of the SWR calculation rules the following Russian regions coefficients apply:

Saint-Petersburg, Leningrad region - 1.0

Moscow, Moscow region - 0.8

Kursk region - 0.7

Republic of Tatarstan, Krasnodar Territory, Vologda, Nizhny Novgorod, Tula regions - 0.6

Republic of Karelia, Arkhangelsk, Ivanovo, Kemerovo, Kirov, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Sverdlovsk regions - 0.5

Vladimir, Kostroma, Perm regions - 0.4

Republic of Udmurtia, Belgorod and Yaroslavl regions - 0.3

Other republics, regions and territories - 0.2

All country coefficients are calculated based on the number of players from a particular country in the Top-100 of the World Ranking ITHF. The coefficients of Russian regions are calculated based on the number of the players of particular region in the Russian national ranking. In the future the coefficients of countries and regions will be regularly automatically recalculated based on clear rules, depending on the number of players in the SWR Top-100 (for countries) and in the national SWR rating (for regions).

4.
The result of each player in any tournament loses in weight 1/5 of the original result every two years;

5.
The ranking of each player is calculated as the sum of the points of the best five tournaments played by him in his entire history and relevant at the moment (taking into account the fall by 1/5 every two years). If there are several players with the same ranking in the SWR, then the one with the most points for the best of the five tournaments that make up the personal ranking will be higher;

6.
SWR is updated every Monday at 09.00 PM (MSK);

7.
Discrimination in tournaments on national or any other grounds is not allowed. In case of detection of facts of discrimination in tournaments, they are lowered in rank (for the ITHF World Tour not lower than level 3). For example, due to the non-admission of the players from Russia and Belarus on the part of the ITHF on the basis of nationality, the European Championship-2022 and Tallinn Cup-2022 were demoted in SWR to the 3rd level, having initially the 2nd level.

Questions and answers

What needs to be done in order for the tournament held by the organizer to get into the SWR?

It is necessary to complete the tournament, check and edit (if necessary) the final standings formed by Scorpion, then make it for free access. You need to make sure that the final position is available for free viewing. After that, the tournament will automatically appear in SWR at the next update;

Why are the tournament coefficients valid only for levels 4, 5, 6?

This is done so that players have more interest in participating in international tournaments (levels 1 - 3);

Why are country and regional coefficients introduced for levels 4-6?

In order to the champion of a strong country gets more points in SWR than the champions of weaker countries, and the champions of strong regions get more points in SWR than the champions of weaker regions;

Why is the calculation of tournament points based not on the ratings of the participants, but on the precisely prescribed number of points for each place and on the coefficients of countries and regions?

Because this calculation is more transparent, and it does not require complex calculations based on importing member rankings. Such methods are successfully used in other sports;

Why are the points received in the national championships of Russia of the 4th level also multiplied by the geographical coefficient of the tournaments?

Statistics show that the stronger the level of development of tournaments in a certain region, the stronger the tournaments arranged in it. This happens both due to the high level of local players, and due to the attraction of strong players from other regions. Thus the Russian coefficient of the national championship of Russia, arranged, for example, in St. Petersburg or in Leningrad Region, is higher than in other regions of Russia.

Why do points earned in any tournament fall by 1/5 every two year?

Because table hockey world championships are traditionally arranged every two years, so the players must keep the earned points until the next world championship.

Why do only tournaments arranged in Scorpion participate in SWR?

Scorpion is an extremely automated system, which initially implies minimal intervention of system employees in calculating results, tables, ratings, etc. If Scorpion will start to import tournaments outdside, this principle will be violated, and the amount of manual work will increase dramatically, which is unacceptable.
